David Fairbairn, born in Zambia in 1949 is an Australian artist, best known for his contemporary works.
After gaining his degree in painting and printmaking in 1974, Fairbairn has taught art, he currently teaches at the National Art School.
Since 1981, more than 40 awards and prizes have been won by Fairbairn including the prestigious Dobell Drawing Prize in 1999 and the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize in 2002.
Fairbairn has been exhibited in the Archibald Prize eight times and as a finalist for the Dobell Drawing Prize 15 times since 1996. A huge achievement for the Australian art scene.
